Perfect weather and a great turnout saw 3200 kids down head to Catani Gardens in St Kilda for the Weet Bix TRYathlon. With an early start to the day the kids woke up when it was still dark and were confused before the day even started.

The challenge to get the kids moving into the car and out the door was softened by the organisation of transition gear and race suit the night before.

Arriving in St Kilda saw parents and grandparents and kids all converge to register, marked and into transition in time for the race briefings from 8:30.

The 1 - 15 year olds flew off the beach right on time at 9 and were followed excitedly at 9:45 by the 7 - 10 year olds. The two TRikids stars Jake Oliver (who spent Friday night on stage with Jamie Oliver!) and Monty Cooper went out in separate waves.

Monty was first to start and found high knees was the way to avoid the chilly water. Shivering as he came out from the swim he raced up the ramp towards his bike knowing that he would make up time in both the bike and the run. Passing bigger kids on the bike Monty was excited to finish with a magnificent sprint finish asking “What was my time?”

Jake was next and swam like a fish, smoothly transitioning onto his bike he flew down the road and made it to the end of the run to the cheers of the Tri-Alliance squad.

A breakfast of Weet Bix was enjoyed and it was great to see champions like Craig Mottram in attendance giving out prizes of Rosemount helmets; Malvern Star bikes and Speedo prize packs.  If you want your kids to be TRikids Champions like Jake and Monty contact Juliet on 0412 5301 94 or contact info@trikids.com.au.

A big thank you needs to go out the Tri- Alliance cheer squad, the posters and pom poms were again a great hit. And the noise made by Stan the Man was heard above the volunteers who cheered on every child to the finish line.

Congratulations to all the kids who swam either 100m or 200metres cycled either 6km or 3km and ran 1km or 500metres.
